All You Need Is Love card

Wow, we know a couple celebrating their silver anniversary this week!  That's pretty amazing.   We'll be celebrating three years next month and that seems like a long time to me, let alone 25 years.  This occasion to me meant a simple but elegant card.

Supplies:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Love Struck 2010
Card stock paper in white
A small sheet of vellum paper in silver
Alphabet stamps
Red ink
Craft glue

Directions:

Cut one of the following:

4 1/2" heart2 from Love Struck 2010 in white cardstock

Using white cardstock cut out one piece that measures 11 1/2" x 5".  Fold this at 5 1/2"  This will create the base of the card with a small overlap.  I used my stamps to then write their names on the overlap with a heart stamp in between.  Glue your white heart to the front.  Then cut the vellum at 5" x 4 1/2" and glue it to the inside.  Again, I used my stamps to write my message.

Dunkin' Donuts Father's Day Card

Few dad's can go without their cup of joe in the morning including my father-in-law who is a die hard fan of Dunkin' Donuts.  What better way to celebrate Father's Day then with a gift card to his favorite place and a cute matching card to go with it.

Supplies:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridges - Just Because Cards, Don Juan and Wild Card
Card stock paper [orange, pink, white and brown]
Craft glue

Directions:

Cut one of each of the following:

5 1/2" Bunny in white from Just Because Cards
5 1/2" Bunny-s in orange from Just Because Cards
2 1/4" Thinking in pink from Don Juan
2 1/4" shadow Thinking in white from Don Juan
2 1/4" Cup of Tea in brown from Don Juan
2" real dial size phrase Father in brown from Wild Card

Glue your orange and white base together to form your card.  Then glue your phrase together and glue this to the front of your card.  On the inside glue the Father's Day phrase and attach your gift card.

I think the front matches the Dunkin' Donuts logo pretty well!

Happy Father's Day everyone!

Relocation Graduation Card

Yes, my sister is going to UCLA this fall for grad school.  She's pretty smart.  So, since she's moving to a new city I thought it appropriate to send her a congratulations-for-graduating-and-congratulations-on-getting-into-UCLA card, complete with a map of the new city she'll be living in.

Supplies:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Plantain Schoolbook
Card stock paper [decorative paper]
Craft glue
Blank card
Pocket map of new school location

Directions:

I had a blank card that folds in the on the edges to close that I used for my base, but you can use a regular blank card or make your own using cardstock.  To make the outside I started with the Cricut cartridge Plantain Schoolbook.  Cut 1" U C L A or the school you are making the card about using your decorative cardstock.  I made mine in all caps.  To make the city skyline I used the same cartridge and cardstock.  Make it 1 1/2" and cut, TallBall City.  Glue these to the front.  You may have to cut your skyline down a little bit to fit on your card.

For the inside, using the same cardstock as the front, cut c o n g r a t s ! in whatever size fits in your card.  Glue this to the inside.  Include a pocket map.  To close my card I included an atom ring thing (see this is why I'm not the one going to UCLA) to close the card.  Cut a 2" Italic s-blast. Glue to the front to close.

Corny Birthday Card

Ha!  I love this card!  It is simple but fun.

Supplies:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Just Because Cards
Card stock paper [yellow, light green and dark green]
Craft glue
Blank cards with envelopes (or make your own with cardstock)
Alphabet stamps
Stamp ink

Directions:

Using your Cricut machine and the Just Because Cartridge cut one layer 2 corn that is 11" in your light green cardstock.  Next, cut out one layer 3 corn-s that is 11" in your dark green.  To make the corn cut out one layer 1 corn-s that is 11" in your yellow cardstock.  Glue these together to make your corn stock.  I used bought blank cardstock that is just brown kraft that worked well for this card but you can also make your own card out of cardstock.  My card was approximately 5"x7".  For the inside I cut out some of the light green card stock that was a little bit smaller then my card and glued this to the inside.   Using the Cricut, cut out one 7" word corn in yellow.  Arrange this on the light green background and glue it.  With your alphabet stamps and ink stamp out "This card might be" and "but we just wanted to say, Happy Birthday" between your glued, Corny.

Mother's Day - Pitcher of Flowers card

Looking for a simple but sweet Mother's Day card to make?  This is it.  I just love how it came out!  Here's how -

Supplies:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Country Life
Plenty of card stock paper [coordinating cream, green blue, purple and pink]
Craft glue
Blank cards with envelopes (or make your own with cardstock)
Mini and regular size brads that coordinate with cardstock colors
Sticker foam

Directions:

Using your Cricut machine and the cartridge Country Life (don't you love this cartridge? I do!), cut out one 4" pitcher in green cardstock.  Next, cut out one 4" pitchr-s in cream.  Next, cut out one 4" layer1 pitcher in pink cardstock.  Then cut out one 4" layer1 pitchr-s in blue.  Lastly, cut out one 4" layer2 pitcher in purple cardstock.  You should have pieces that look like this:

Glue your pitcher together and allow it to dry with something heavy on it so it doesn't curl.  After it is dried, apply a small piece of sticker foam to the back of it and apply that to the front of the card.  I used the foam because I love how the foam makes the pitcher pop from the card.  Around the pitcher place several brads in different shapes.  That's it!

Graduation Cap Card

Last year I made this graduation card and this year we have another graduation to celebrate.  I opted for something a bit simpler with this card but also still creative.

Supplies:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Wild Card
Cardstock paper in three colors [White, Black & Red (or whatever school colors you need)]
Craft glue
1 gold brad
String in two colors (matching the school, I used white and red)
Bone folder
Edge scissors
Poster paint pens (optional)

Directions:

Using your Cricut machine and the cartridge Wild Card, cut one 5 1/2" graduatn in black.  Instead of folding your graduation cap into a card, cut out the top hat so it looks like above.  Next, cut out one 5 1/2" liner graduatn in red.  This will make the tassel.  I used poster paint pens to make the white streaks in my tassel because those are the school colors I needed, but you don't have to.  For the phrase, cut out one 6 1/2" phrase graduatn in read.  Next, cut out one 1 1/2" alphabet argyle, alphabet joy and twp 1 1/2"alphabet scallop in red.  This will make the '2011'.  For the card, I simply cut out one 6 1/2" x 10" rectangle from white paper and using a bone folder, folded it in half.  I used edge scissors on the corners for a fancier look.  Glue the hat, tassel and phrase to the front.  Using a brad holer or a knife, make a slit where the tassel meets the center of the hat and put your brad there.

For the inside I used a 4 1/2" x 6" red cardstock as the liner that I cut out with fancy edging scissors.  I also used the other phrase from the Cricut to say, For the Graduate, in black.  Our gift for this grad was money so I completed the card by rolling up a few bills and tying them with yarn that matched the card.  I used removable tape to apply it to the card like it was a mini diploma.

Flower Bookmark card

Wow do we have a lot of birthday's to celebrate in February! For this last one I made a neat card that actually serves two purposes. It's a card and it comes apart to be a bookmark.

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Give A Hoot, Just Because Cards
Cardstock paper in 3 colors [flower print that matches other two colors, brown, blue]
Craft glue
Bone folder
1 decorative flower brad that matches cardstock

Directions:

Start with the Just Because Card cartridge and using your flower cartstock and brown carstock cut one of each:  cookie and cookie-s.  These should be 4 1/2" large.  Next, switch to the Give A Hoot cartridge.  Cut one charm Hdgehog2 and one charm Hdgehog2-s  using your brown and blue cardstock.  Cut these at 4" real dial size.  Glue your card base together and glue your bookmark together.  Do not glue your bookmark to your card!  Once glued, cut a small slit in the upper part of your card front.  Layer your bookmark on top of this and slide your brad into place.  Secure the brad on the inside.  Now you have a nice card with a removable bookmark.

Felt Valentine's Day cards

I've always liked Valentine's Day, mostly because of the craftiness that comes with it - making Valentine's, making homemade gifts for your sweetie, and when I was young, making the very best Valentine's box for school.  This year my craftiness involved making a bunch of fast easy cards using felt and cardstock.

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Just Because Cards
Cardstock paper in 3 colors [cream, red and pink]
Craft glue
Scissors (sewing and regular)
Ruler
Bone folder
Felt in light red
Sewing machine or pin if doing it by hand
Red thread

Directions:

Start by making your card base.  Using the Just Because Cards cartridge, a Cricut and a cream colored cardstock, cut out one radish 4 1/2".  Next, using your pink cardstock, cut out one radish-s.  This makes the scalloped base.  Using a ruler, scissors and red cardstock cut out a square smaller then your card base but bigger then the scalloped base.  Glue these together.  Then, using the light red felt, cut out a heart using sewing scissors that is big enough to fit inside of the pink scalloped cardstock.  I used my sewing machine to then sew the felt heart onto the front of the card.  You can also do this by hand.  When finished I simple wrote, Happy Valentine's Day! on the inside.

Happy $hopping money card

What to get a 17 year old? Money. That's what they want. So, I made a money holder card for someone celebrating their 17th birthday this weekend.

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Wild Card
Cardstock paper in 3 colors [white, aqua, patterned print that matches aqua]
Craft glue
Bone folder

Directions:

Using the Wild Card cartridge and a Cricut machine cut out one AllinOne that is 4 1/2" using your patterned print.  Next, using your aqua cut out one blackout AllinOne that is also 4 1/2".  To make the phrase cut out one phrase AllinOne at 1 3/4" real dial size.  Glue your inside and outside together but make sure not to glue directly around where the money slits are.  Next, glue your phrase on the side.  Add money and you have a card!

Doily Anniversary Card

My in-laws anniversary was this month so I decided to make a simple doily card.  I haven't found a cartridge yet that has cards for anniversaries so I had do make do with what I had.

Supplies:

Cardstock - two solid colors and one patterned color for the doily.  It works best if these all compliment each other.  I used cardstock from K&Company.
Glue
Cricut or access to one such as at a scrapbooking store
Cartridges - Wild Card and Mother's Day 2010
Ruler
Sissors

Directions:

Starting with your Mother's Day 2010 cartridge and your patterned cardstock, cut one Doily3.  I cut mine at 4 1/2 inches.  Cut yours to your desired size but remember because the doily is intricate the large it is the easier it is to cut.  I just love the doily's from the Mother's Day 2010 cartridge, they are so pretty!  Next, Cut your solid cardstock to fit your doily.  I just did this with a ruler and scissors.  Use one cardstock for the outside and the other as a liner on the inside.  I just added a simple "Celebrate" on the inside using cardstock and the Wild Card cartridge,  phrase star-s.

Birthday flower card

We have a birthday to celebrate today!  Lewie's great grandma turns 93!  She's one of the nicest people I've ever met and I love visiting her.  Since we can't be there though I made sure to send her a card.

Supplies:

Cricut machine or access to one like at a scrapbooking store
Cartridges: Walk in My Garden and Wild Card
Cardstock - purple, light purple, neutral, green
Markers in matching colors if desired
Craft glue

Directions:

Starting with your Walk in My Garden cartridge cut a card hydrng in your neutral color cardstock.  Cut this in a size that will match your base of your card.  My base was 10X5 making my card a 5X5 so I cut my card at Real Dial Size 4 1/2".  Next, using your  green and light purple cut a card hydrng-s twice - once with each color.  You will have 1 extra flower.  Glue your light purple flower over your green flower making a purple flower with green leaves and glue this all onto the flower card.  Cut your base in your darker purple.  Glue your card front to the base.  Then, using your Wild Card cartidge and your light purple cut one phrase cupcake at 1 1/2" Real Dial Size.  This will spell Happy Birthday for the inside if that's what you desire.  I finished the card by drawing a few things on the flower in marker with their matching color just to jazz it up.  Happy Birthday Great Grandma!

2010 Christmas Card

Last year we opted for a photo Christmas card but this year I wanted to do something more homemade, more eco friendly and plus I didn't have a good photo to use.  I was also given a crafty new cartridge from Cricut: Christmas Cards!  So I set up an assembly line and pumped out 25 Christmas cards.  They are made from 100% cardstock that was made in the USA and you can recycle or compost it.  No lead, no shiny paper, and they were pretty inexpensive to make.

Supplies:

Cardstock in 5 different colors ( I used cardstock from S.E.I. called Simple Sets: Savory - red, green, yellow, brown, and off-white)
Cricut machine or access to one like at a scrapbooking store
Craft glue
Cricut cartridges: Christmas Cards, Winterlace and Wild Card
Cards and envelopes (I used  Halcraft Large Ivory which comes in a 40 pack and is made in the USA)

Instructions:

First, using the Christmas Card cartidge I cut out the bird card in my various colors.  I cut these at 4 1/2 inches using the paper saver and as many as could fit on the mat.  You'll notice that when you cut all these out you're left with a cut that says, "Peace".  I didn't use these but hung on to them for next years cards.

Once you have all your bird pieces cut out, switch to the Winterlace cartidge.  Cut twice as many snowflakes than you did birds so you have two for each card.  I cut half snwflke3 and half accent5 at 3/4" in my off-white.

Switch your cartridge for the last time to Wild Card.  Using your green cardstock cut one phrase ornament at 4 1/4".  This will give you your "Merry Christmas" for the inside so only print one per card.

After you have all your pieces it's time to put them together.  Put them together as follows:

Then, glue these parts along with the snowflakes to the front:

And the inside like this:

I used a printer and just Word to print the "Love, Lewie & Danielle" before I glued anything on.  I also added a message to the back asking everyone to recycle or compost the card:

And that's it!  I put them in the envelopes, addressed them and posted a new pretty Evergreen stamp on them and they are ready to go:

I love a homemade Christmas!

Sparkly Bird Birthday Card

Need:

Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Wild Card and Give A Hoot
Cardstock paper in four colors [purple, light pink, pink]
Craft glue
Bone folder
Pencil
Glitter

Directions:

Starting with the Wild Card cartridge, cut one Tweety at 5 1/2 inches in the purple colored cardstock.  This will make your card with a window in the front.  Using the light pink color cut one blackout Tweety at 5 1/2 inches and glue this to the inside of your card.  Then switch your cartridge to the Give A Hoot.  Cut one bird3 at 3 1/2 inches.  This is your stencil for the glittered part.  Next cut out the same bird but blacked-out in your pink cardstock.  Temporally put the bird with the designs cut out on top of your blacked-out bird.  Trace the design onto the pink bird.  Remove the stencil and fill in the traced in areas with glue and then glitter.  The trick I've learned when working with glitter is to really put a descent amount on at first and let it sit there without touching it until it dries - at least 15 minutes.  Then shake of the extra glitter.  After you have shaken off the extra glitter, glue your bird to the outside of your card.  On the inside of the card I glued a small design from the Give A Hoot cartridge and stamped Happy Birthday - can you tell that I like those letter stamps?!

This is a really nice card to make and I imagine it would also look pretty in all different shades like blues and purples.  You have to forgive the low quality pictures in those post too because we are moving and the best light I could get was on the fridge.  I'm hoping our new house will have better lighting for pictures!

I finished my sign!

I finished the sign I've been making for work!  This was a massive undertaking but I really enjoy painting so it was fun to work on and so satisfying to finish.  The man who renovated the Bear Mountain Coffee House & Art Gallery last year helped us build the sign out of plywood and 2X4.  Once the sign was built we painted it white with a primer.  Then I painted the whole thing our navy blue color.  It took several coats to cover it well.  After that, I cut out the letters using my Cricut - each letter is approximately 8 1/2 inches tall.  After they were all cut out I measured out my board then taped each letter and played around with the arrangement.  I traced each letter with pencil, then painted each letter in with white, twice.  Once all the letters were painted I put a few coats of polyurethane on the whole board.  After this dried I then painted each letter again with polyurethane and before it dried I sprinkled reflective dust on it.  This way in the evening each letter will be reflective for traffic passing by.  It's a large sign measuring 10X8 feet so we put it on Hwy 60 as you are coming into town for travelers to read on their way in.  It was a lot of hard work but turned out pretty good!

Happy Birthday Cat & Bird Card

Need:

Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Wild Card and Meow
Cardstock paper in four colors [tan, gray, orange, red ]
Craft glue
Scissors
Ruler
Bone folder
Black and red markers [i.e. Sharpie thin point]

Directions:

Using your Wild Card cartridge in your Cricut machine,  cut one #1 using red cardstock.  Cut this at 5 1/2 inches.  This will create the base of your card with a small window in the front.  Use your bone folder to fold this in half.  Next, using the Meow cartridge cut on one Bird, with your Real Size dial on, at 1 3/4 an inch in gray cardstock.  This is the base for your kitty.  To make the kitty orange or your desired color, cut one layers Bird in 1 3/4 an inch.  Glue this to the top of your kitty and bird.  Using a lighter cardstock then your card, I used tan, cut out a rectangle that is smaller then your card folded for the inside.  You can add a decorative edge around this using scissors if you'd like. Glue this to the center of the inside page.  Lastly center your cat in the window and glue the cat to the card lining.  I added to small black eyes and colored it's nose red with markers.  I also used my new stamps to spell out Happy Birthday.

Hummingbird card

Here's a simple blank card that can be for anything, just a note, thank you card, or congratulations card.  I make it using a new cartridge I got called Give A Hoot.

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Give A Hoot
Cardstock paper in five colors [green, yellow, orange, purple, blue]
Craft glue
Scissors
Ruler
Bone folder
Bazzill Basics Paper Cardstock Strips - Cloverleaf
Various stamps
Martha Stewart's stamp ink - Lilac

Directions:

Start with making the base of your card by cutting out a rectangle that measures 8 inches by 4 inches with a ruler and scissors. Fold this in half using a bone folder.  To start making the front, using your Give A Hoot cartridge, cut out one Hmmngbrd in yellow that is 2 1/2 inches.  Then, cut out one layer Hmngbd-s that is also 2 1/2 inches in orange.  Next, cut out one layer Hmngdb in purple (2 1/2 inches).  Glue these together.  Because your stem on your flower will still be yellow, I used some paper from the Bazzill Basics Paper Cardstock Strips - Cloverleaf to glue over that part and then cut out.  I used the remaining Cloverleaf Cardstock Strips to decorate the outside edges.

On the inside I used Martha Stewart's ink (color = lilac) and a simple stamp to finish my card.  I also stamped the back in the same color with my "homemade by danielle" logo.

Taking the Cake birthday card

No matter your age, a hot pink card mentioning cake never gets old.  My husband's Aunt's birthday was last week and I had a blast making her card.  Happy Birthday Janie!

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Just Because Cards,  Wild Card
Cardstock paper in four colors [pink, brown, light brown, off-white]
Craft glue
Brown Sharpie marker - thin

Directions:

Start with using the Just Because Cards cartridge.  Using your pink cardstock cut out one Cake that is 5 1/2 inches.  This will be the base of the card.  Next, cut out one Cake-s in off-white that is also 5 1/2 inches.  Glue these together.  Meanwhile, cut out one word Cake in pink (5 1/2 in).  Then, cut out one word Cake-s in brown (5 1/2 in).  This will make the phrase "you take the cake".  Glue these together and then glue them to the front of the card.  To make the cake cut out one layer 1 Cake in light brown (5 1/2 in).  Next, cut out one layer 1 Cake-s in dark brown (5 1/2 in).  Lastly, cut out one layer 2 Cake-s in pink to make the cherry (5 1/2 in).  Glue your cake together and add this to the front.  I used the Wild Card cartridge to cut out the Happy Birthday phrase on the inside using brown.

Get Whale Soon card

Unfortunately, I had a get well soon card to make this week for a friend who's daughters both had small surgery's this week.  Since they are both under the age of ten though, I thought I'd make it cute.  Cute and simple.

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Just Because Cards
Cardstock paper in three colors [dark blue, light blue, striped or solid coordinate]
Craft glue
Hole punch
Wave pattern scissors
Ruler
Regular scissors

Directions:

To cut out the base of this card, cut out one 5 1/2 inch Whale in your striped or solid coordinate.  To make the whale cut out one layer 1 Whale-s (5 1/2 in) in dark blue.  Next, cut out one layer 1 Whale (5 1/2 in) in light blue.   Glue these together to make your whale.  Using your light blue cut out several circles using a regular whole punch.  Before gluing your whale and bubble to the front of your card, use your wave scissors to cut 'waves' down the side of your card.  This adds a nice touch to the front.  To make the inside cut out one word Whale (5 1/2 inches) in dark blue.  Then, cut out one square in light blue that is 5 inches by 3 1/4 inches using a ruler and scissors. Glue these together and then glue to the inside.

2 Peas In A Pod card

Lewie's Aunt and Uncle celebrate their 24th anniversary today!  They truly are two peas in a pod so a card stating that seemed fitting.

Need:
Cricut Machine or access to one such as in a scrapbooking store
Cartridge - Just Because Cards, Don Juan
Cardstock paper in three colors [dark green, light green, cream]
Craft glue

Directions:

Start by cutting out the base for the card using the Just Because Cards cartridge.  Cut one Peas in dark green that is 5 1/2 inches.  Next, cut out the scallop edge background using the same cartridge.  Cut one House in cream that is 5 1/2 inches.  Glue this to your dark green card base and let dry.  Meanwhile, cut one layer 1 Peas in dark green (5 1/2 in).  This will be the back of your peas.  To finish it, cut one layer 1 Peas-s that is light green (5 1/2 in).  Glue your top light green pea to your bottom dark green pea.  Once it is dry, cut off the third bottom pea, leaving you with two peas in your pod.  Next, cut out a word peas-s in light green (5 1/2 in).  Lastly, using the Don Jaun cartridge, cut out the number 2 and letters i n a p o d in dark green 3/4 inches.  Then just glue the remaining pieces (the pod, PEAS and your letters) to the front of the card.  On the inside I just wrote, Happy Anniversary!
